Starter motor turns but not engine V6 190bhp
Hi
When I turn the key the starter motor turns over very quickly and does not engage. I presume the small cog on the starter motor is not engaging with the flywheel. Is it just a case of removing the starter motor and cleaning everything? or is it more likely something has broken? thankyou Other than that its a great car and was a bargain |

I don't know if this applies to petrol engines too but it is worth to take a look:

Peter,
Those are interesting symptoms. If the starter motor is a pre-engaged type, the electrical supply is switched to the motor only after the drive pinion has engaged with the flywheel ring gear. Yes, time to take it off the engine for inspection. Simon.
