Default ABS sensor woes.

Hi all, After my ABS light came on followed by the no speedo & wobbly fuel gauge I set about changing the O/S front ABS sensor, The problem I am having is getting the old one out, I tried drilling a hole & inserting a screw but the plastic just fell to bits, So what have I got to do now to get whats left of the old one out?, , , , ,Many Thanks.

Near enough all of the time you have to fully drill the whole thing out.

I was thinking that but where does all the bits end up as I didn't think there was anywhere for them to drop out?.

The bits end-up in the hub and if you are really lucky (un) will eventually damage the magnetic strip. I've tried drilling them out, using self-taping screws etc but the last few mm fell into the hub. Now I just take the hub off, not fun I know, but in the end takes less time.

Good luck

I have just drilled them out in the past and blew the bits out with air or brake cleaner. So it doesn’t damage the abs ring.

As the other posts confirm, you're not alone Tim. Just keep going and remove the fragments as they're created using your home vacuum cleaner. Lubrication around the circumference might help. Eventually the remaining part of the sensor will be sufficiently weakened to allow withdrawal.
