Hi Pip,
I would like to echo T-Cut's observation. Your white clip appears to be fitted on the skew, unless it's a camera illusion. If so, that suggests that Mr. Previous Owner separated the two halves of the filter (not recommended) and had the reported difficulty putting them back together again. If the seal between them isn't perfect there will be no fuel pressure which appears to be what you're experiencing. Blocked pipes and injectors are extremely unlikely. Simon

@SD1too I honestly think it's a trick of the light - you can see above the metal band there's no gap at all between the bits of plastic. In person it didn't look at all out of place, and is clipped top and bottom, but I can take another look...

@trikey that's good to know, thank you! It fired with easystart so it's literally just figuring out why it's not flowing to the right place.

It's pretty clear to my eye anyway, that the filter cap is not fully tightened so that the vertical ribs line up. I'd strongly suggest that you examine this by opening it up and checking the state of the internal seal. This seal is THE most critical part of the whole fuel supply system. It's also the most fragile and is the crux of the whole Fuel Filter Syndrome saga. The lack of fuel pressure at the rail, plus the photo simply shouts out "FFS". Basically, open it up, make any necessary fixes and tick it off the list of possible causes. Additionally, the large port seal also looks rather strange and denatured from contact with petrol. This is what you need. TC |

Thanks again TC - I definitely see what you're talking about!
I do think it's lens aberration from my phone camera (the metal band also has a very strange line to it), but I'll get the chance to look at it again tomorrow or Friday. As for the big o-ring, that's already delivered from Rimmer Bros and fitted The small seal though - is that the one you can only get as part of the replacement filter set? |

If you do that, don't be fazed by the appearance of the filter element. It will probably be black with stuff it's removed from the fuel. That's perfectly normal and you don't need to replace it. A new element will look the same after a year or so. The filter is not part of the service schedule and is designed for lifetime fit. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 7th January 2021 at 10:44.. |

Well, we got it running!
Ticked over for an hour to charge the battery, the port seal was replaced and pipes were all refitted (apparently they were all trashed), and then seven miles after passing the MOT it stopped... Pump is priming and then cutting out - crank sensor? Or pump itself? Breakdown and the garage both think it's the pump. Sender unit clip is fine (I don't have a photo) - it was just a lens aberration with the phone camera being so close. Pip |

Pip,
Here are a couple of things which I hope will be useful. That will not charge a battery. What you need is a battery charger connected for 24 hours. That's what the fuel pump is supposed to do when the ignition is switched on. Do you mean that the fuel pump isn't running when you're cranking the engine? If so, yes, that's much more likely to be the crankshaft sensor than the pump. Simon
