Harry Potter Book Cake
I myself does enjoy a bit of baking, cakes are my speciality.
Its my youngest daughters 16th birthday next week, and a party bash this weekend. My daughter is obsessed with the Harry Potter franchise, so... I set myself a huge task to make her a Harry Potter book cake I started today and so far its gone quite well, here are some pics... Do you reckon I could audition for the Great British Bake Off? Mixing the ingredients is the easy, the fun and messy part is the most enjoyable. 2x baked and now cooling, just another 2 more to bake. 4x baked and ready for carving, how the hell do I carve a book shape into a sponge? I better not forget the butter cream filling. All carved shaped and creamed. The first lot of icing goes on. Now for another layer of icing to be placed on top to give the effect of a real paper page, curling the edges really gives that authentic look. No where near finished yet, still more to do... |

Lol, thanks fellas.
I've pretty much finished for the day, blooming shattering all this baking. I have left the wife's kitchen is a right mess though, she is going to kill me. There is still some more finishing to do on the cake yet, so hopefully tomorrow I will get a bit more done. Trying to store the dam thing has become a task all of its own, where do you hide a whopping cake of this size? Shaping the cake some more to look like an open book, the spine is becoming a difficult job. Now to give the cake (book) its thick leather look cover and spine... Bit more shaping. Only 4x sides to do... I'm getting there... Bit of a jump as I got carried away with the painting. I'm not sure if any of you guys have heard of edible Lustre Dust, its a metallic powder that gives a superb paint finish to a cake. You can add Vodka to the powder so to give it its paint form, its easy to work with this way, and what contents is left turns back to powder once the Vodka evaporates. Its getting there, but still more to do though. Why I get these ideas is beyond me, they seem good at the time. I just forget the time it takes until finished, will be worth it in the end I'm sure. |

Thanks guys...
Been at it again today, I'm getting a bit carried away with it now, I'm a baker possessed. Some shading to be done... The first bit of writing... Both pages complete... More shading... ... and some more... ... and finally its finished... well! not really. I still have Harry Potters Glasses, the Golden Snitch, the Sorting Hat, Ravenclaws Scarf and some Wands to make and paint. The party bash is this Saturday, so I have just two days to get it all finished. Oh... and I need to make a Harry Potter themed cake display board.
