Phone battery.
Hi, just bought(free upgrade) a new phone and as usual, they said give it a 15 hour charge. Why is this, because surely this is over charging it and once the indicator stops flashing its stopped charging anyway??

If you don't ensure it has had a FULL charge first time out, the battery will often only charge up to the previous remembered point.
That's why you are better allowing the battery to go flat and then give it a full charge each time. Mick |

Phone Battery? I abhor violence! Although I sometimes want to give mine a good bashing too!

The circuit in the fone only shows the batt has got a decent charge...around 80% on a first charge as the internal resistance stops the fast charge... Batts like to top up to 100% very slowly at first... like blowing up a big balloon.... once its at full it will go to that point easily again....

I recently bought a Nokia 6500 and as you say, the instructions tell you to charge for fifteen hours.
Anyway I left it on charge overnight and it seems to hold its charge very well. Dave T |

yeah 14-16 hours is about right...
The 6500 has a funny trick where if the battery should run flat, it can take up to half an hour on charge before the fone starts to show its charging!!

Lithium-based batteries, have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries.
