I am in Essex so Lates is a bit of a trek - anybody able to recommend anyone down this way? I used the old Rover dealer in Upminster to get the belts done but they don't seem to be a Rover specialist anymore. Would be happier trusting someone that other owners have had a good experience with - if there is anyone in this part of the world !

Thanks again for all replies & advice. I suppose I could take it to Lates as it is fine once cruising - it's just the gearchanges to get into top that are not very nice !

really a job for a specialist place , if you do it yourself you can only get 4 litres out at a time , this means doing it twice .
Also the early jatco boxes are prone to a cracked reverse piston which can cause all manner of faults.

Anyone know of anyone in the south east who can be recommended to do the ATF change? Otherwise I may have to trek up to Lates.....

It's just an auto box. Surely anyone who services gearboxes could do it, Doesn't have to be Rover.

Default Auto Box Change

Apple MG of meopham in kent is the only one I know but any auto specialists should be familiar with the Jatco box procedure but you will have to satisfy yourself that that is the case. i.e. ask them where the level plug is (on the bottom).
