Default Advice please !

Hello all ,

I just posted in general when really I should be asking this one in here.... so...

I am about to take a 75 tourer in trade in that I fancy for my Dad to replace his 4dr. The car is an 03 con SE 2.5 that a couple of weeks ago was reading approx 25k until its battery was replaced - now it displays 999999 !

Is there a procedure to reset the cluster after discharging/replacing the battery ? Any advice gratefully recieved on this one.......

thanks in advance

Darren

ps I have MOT certs to verify the low miles.

Hi and welcome, the following has been lifted from a post by Keith who is a bit of a guru on there matters.

Doesn't sound good I'm afraid.

The 999999 on the cluster is more serious and it suggests, typical cause of cluster damage are excess sparks when disconnecting the battery. People have reported zapped clusters when getting alternators replaced. Cheap versions of those dreadfull battery boosters some garages and recovery firms use can do untold harm to modern electronics if used incorrectly

If the 999999 message is what I suspect then it will almost certainly need a new cluster. (Keith)

Many thanks.... is the cluster a nightmare of a job? Does it then require any programming etc or is it a plug in and go job ?

You need a brand new IPK (Instrument pack) and 30 minuites on the Testbook to configure.

IPK's range from about £80 up to £250 depending on spec.

Les @ SMC has a good selection at bargin prices.

We now have two threads running simultaneously so I will close this one as the other thread has gained more answers. I will, however move the other thread into this forum as that is where it belongs. If anyone wants this thread re-opening then let me know.
