Default Can anybody recommend........

Looking to buy a brake flaring tool that can be used on the car, must work with all kinds of pipe including steel. What do you have?
Thanks

I'm only going to recommend one Mark

This one.......LINK

I've had mine for about ten years, and it still produces perfect flares, on everything from copper (which I don't use) KuniFer, and importantly steel on the car

Shock, horror, SD1too agrees with marinabrian!

Yes, I own a Sykes Picavant Flaremaster 2 as well and thoroughly recommend it.

I don't need one at the moment but am tempted to buy one to celebrate the rare event!

Does anyone have any particular recommendations for a quality supplier of brake pipe? The reason I ask is that my Sykes pickavant flaring tool is letting the pipe slip through the dies.

My current stock of kunifer pipe is branded “Saville” but the pipe OD measures 4.58-4.60mm which is less than the supposed 4.76mm on the label and makes for poor flares.

Automec have been the leaders in this sort of thing for as long as I can remember Gary.

Superb bit of kit. Only used it for flaring Kunifer on the cars, but I tested it on some old steel pipes that I had replaced on the Freelander and it worked just as well with steel.

I wonder if you got a duff batch of pipe Gary, I've just measured the last lot I used........

I've found with the Flaremaster, you must file the end of the pipe completely flat, you cannot simply use a pipe cutter to part off the pipe, and ensure both halves of the die are completely aligned, and the gap on the jaw when the backnut tightened at 1mm.

I've never experienced any issues with pipe slipping through the die, and always managed to produce good flares on kunifer and steel.

Thanks for verifying the measurements on the Saville pipe, Looks like I do indeed have a poor batch. two rolls infact
I have asked the company what tolerance their pipe is supposed to be. will be interesting to hear their feedback.
When I clamp the undersized pipe in the jaws, basically I have no gap, so hopefully with the new pipe there is more consistency.

Hopefully Gary, I have to say I've not had any issues in the past, and I was concerned enough to measure the latest roll I bought (about six weeks back) on the basis of what you'd found.

So where have you bought your replacement from?
