If you get a long beep and then nothing the system is telling you that there is a fault and it is not working. You can check to hear if each sensor is clicking. Also not uncommon for a wiring fault in the joints of the loom between the sensors and control unit.

If a manual, do your reversing lights work? Could be the gearbox switch has worn out.

Do your chimes work when you leave the lights on and switch off the ignition/shut the door? Not unknown for the IPK sounder to die.

Could also be the parking sensor ECU, mine failed, a white unit (mine is a 2003 too).

If you've got Toaf run it and see what it says.

Good luck

It'll be sensor or the wiring.
Listen to each sensor in turn while the car is in reverse (key position 2, without engine running) - as long as the reverse lights are on the system will be active.

One or more of the sensors will likely be not clicking; this will either be a faulty sensor or faulty wiring due to corrosion (the joints were never very good on these from the factory).

If it's a sensor, we have unpainted here: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/ydb...0ce3eece&_ss=r

And we have a limited amount of painted sensors here too: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/pre...0ce3eece&_ss=r

Both are genuine New Old Stock
