Yes don't put them on too early for Christmas.. you shouldn't start to cook them until 3rd of December.. they should be just about right for the 25th.

I hate sprouts and that's perfectly fine.

However, can anyone explain to me why sprouts=christmas?....Surely if they were that good we'd be eating the things all year (and don't try the 'oh, seasonal' caper as I can buy strawberrys in the depths of December these days)

It brings to mind the Daily Mash T-shirt: "Happy Birthday Jesus: have a sprout"

the sprout is actually the plant gone to seed and was in past times one of the very few greens available in winter , when the plant is touched by frost it improves the flavour .

It,s a tradition that carries on till today even tho as you say we can munch on greens of all kinds all year round , most of the things we eat at xmas have a foot in the past .

Come again?!... Improves the flavour?!... Considering I feel they taste like the waft of gas from an overfilled septic tank, what in the name of all that's holy do they taste like prior to this 'improvement'?

that made me giggle mate .

having grown most things when i had a big veggie patch (not sprouts tho) frost on cabbages and swedes really does make em taste better .

Some folk just hate greens and any veg for that matter and i must say that i now eat mostly pasta and rice rather than prepare and cook greens , still love my fruit tho
