Barry Wallond RIP
Some very sad news. Barry Wallond – the owner of the spitfire at the now famous “Spitfire Corner’’ at the end of the runway here at Newquay has passed away peacefully last night.
Some of the people here at CAHC have known, worked and served with Barry for many many years. All speak so highly of him. Barry was also a local hero with the Newquay Coastguard saving many lives, often putting himself in danger to do so. An aviation enthusiast like no other who did much for the Aviation Heritage of this country - a very talented aviation artist and a very knowledgeable individual A real character and wonderful chap - a one off. Rest in peace Barry. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We met with Barry a few years back when he came to the rescue with wire and a pair of pliers when Ratty, Allen's 75, lost it's rear silencer. The Spitfire in his front garden was a mock up from the film Battle of Britain, and every year he would paint it in different squadron colours. He also owned the wreckage of the first Hurricane to be shot down in the Battle of Britain. A very talented artist.
