A horrible illness.

My father in law is going through it at the moment, heart breaking to watch the person he was just slipping away.

Good luck to Jackie Stewart. The man who brought safety to F1 through sheer determination should be a powerful campaigner for dementia research.

Having dealt with many sufferers in my career one as young as 32 , I know its no respecter of fame or fortune. All we can do is to keep the person safe and maintain their dignity. There have been various drugs claimed to slow it down, labelling all doors has been helpful to some and the use of a camera that takes a photo every thirty seconds which can be reviewed at end of the day on PC, their have been good reports on using this to help maintain current memories and much research continues but donations always welcome.

Default Us too

We are having same with Wendy's mum. Lot of strain on Wendy in particular. She is still living on her own but getting to be very demanding on time. Not that we mind but woukd be a lot easier if some of the load was shared by her brother. Grrrr!
Terrible to see memory going knowing nothing you can do.
Other than be there.

A 57 year old friend of mine has begun to suffer, he has had to hand in his driving licence because he looks in the rear view mirror and cannot remember what he has seen. He said he was using a digi voice recorder, but found it less than ideal. I had a surplus to my needs voice operated mini cassette recorder which he found to be more suitable, so I gave him that.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

It's a horrible thing for family members to watch their loved ones go through this!

My heart goes out to any family dealing with this!

My mother is a victim of this horrible illness and has declined rapidly in the last 12 months, or so.
When I see her now, she is confused with who I am, and often thinks that I am her brother, Bobby.
She tries to share childhood, wartime, memories with me, as if I was there.

She does not remember any of my recent visits, and not one of the half a dozen of times that I picked her up to see my father in hospital.

The last time I saw her, I gave her a hug and her eyes changed and she said “you are my son, Robert, aren’t you?”
I told her that I was, and with tears of joy she, amongst other things, said that she was so pleased that I had come to see her, after all this time.

I am up in the Cotswolds again at the weekend to see my parents, but I think that, sadly, that she will not know who I am.
However, I will cherish that hug and to be mother and son again, for those few moments.

Hopefully she will remember me again, but I fear that, maybe, it was our last goodbye.

It is a cruel way to lose anyone, whether it is a mother or any other loved one.

My hat is off to Jackie Stewart.

I'm really sorry to hear that Bob. heartbreaking.

I wouldn't wish this disease on my worse enemy. It amazes me how many people are suffering from it and the numbers are increasing rapidly. I do wonder why this is happening. I really hope the government do take this disease seriously and invest heavily in research to try and find a cure or to manage it as best as possible.

We had to watch Mary's mum suffer with the disease for two years until she passed away peacefully
Sadly every one of her Aunties have also suffered, the most recent the youngest one has just recently been admitted into a care home.
Poor Charlie looked after her faithfully for over two years but things were just getting too much.

It's terrible to watch someone you love so much and they don't recognise their own family.
