A really trivial thread this, so apologies, but I need to replace the original gear knob on our ZTT. A really strange fault - the plastic dome covering the gearshift decal has come off, leaving a circular hole that is uncomfortable on the palm.
Replacement originals are quite pricey, so I've been looking at the after market ones you can get off ebay. The car is an '03 Mk1 manual. Apart from the entertainment of getting the old one off the lever, is there anything else I should be aware of? Anyone else done this? What is the diameter of the lever? Many thanks! This is the one I am thinking of: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-Leat...item25803d34d5 Last edited by Dragrad; 23rd July 2013 at 23:24.. Reason: consecutive posts |

I bought a brand new walnut one for a 45, had to drill out the threads to get it to fit but it looks great and doesn't attract silly prices that 75 stuff does.
Sorry, should have said check out SMC on ebay £23 for the last one. Last edited by Dragrad; 23rd July 2013 at 23:49.. Reason: consecutive posts |

Thanks Geoff - and you're right: anything to do with a Rover 75 or ZT automatically commands a premium! Even over identical BMW parts It's annoying, but perhaps also suggests a healthy enthusiasm for the cars in general
I might get a replacement OEM item, but if I am perfectly honest, while it does the job, I've never been particularly fond of the cheap looking quadrant sticker under the gel cover - and similarly for the surround for the MG logo on the airbag cover too - but I doubt I can do much about that... Anyone tried after-market? It might be a case of "suck it and see" I think... |

When I bought my ZT the plastic was discoloured and split. I was going to look for a replacement until I came across this.
Rather than lacquer I built up layers of my wife's clear nail varnish. |

Awesome! That'll do the trick for now while I figure out what to replace it with!
Are you still using the same refurbished gear knob Steve? Just wondering - does it actually need lacquering? Last edited by Rob Bell; 24th July 2013 at 11:21.. |
