I think they are wrong. Seems clear to me that there are two of them, a big one and a little one - which by implication suggests that they are breeding.

Should be easy to spot given that they only appear to have one leg ... each.

Maybe Tolkien based his novel on them to some degree and tried to cover his tracks with a play on words ... The Hoppit?

According to the local weekly paper, the “Tynedale big cat”; I mentioned in an earlier post, has been spotted again recently.
