To put it more succinctly. It is even less torquey, less powerful and almost as thirsty as the bigger engine.
Rover saw the light the minute the 1.8T hit the street. The 2 liter exited stage left.
The 1.8T is faster lighter, stronger more economical. So all in all a better package if you can just keep the head gasket sound.

Tourers tend to lead a harder life - the load compartment taking all sorts of loads. I've had MGF subframes in the back of mine, not to mention five in the car, all the camping gear for 2-weeks holiday and stuff on the roof! Therefore have a look at the ride height - particularly at the rear: the springs are a known weak spot and likely to fracture.

Good point regarding the load cover - also check that it still has it's locating ends - mine's broken, but I gather replacements can be bought affordably from a BMW dealer.

Otherwise I think it is usual 75 checks?
