Rear Suspension looks low on tourer CDTi
Hi all.
My 2001 diesel tourer looks a bit low on the back end when compared to other 75s. Could this be tired springs, or did I read somewhere they they have self leveling suspension? If so could it be that that's causing the problem? Thanks for any assistance, Webbnos. |

Self levelling was an option on the Tourer. They used Nivomat dampers and they restore the ride height "on the road". Check your ride height after having used the car for a short trip.

Hi thanks for the response, mine is always the same height, regardless of whether its been stood up or been for a drive which leads to suspect I wouldn't have the self leveling option?

With the car standing on horizontal ground, walk several yards away from it and look at the lower sill line. It should be horizontal.

If you measure the wheeel centre to arch (ie trim height) front should be 408mm and rear 399mm or so I believe. Some tolerance on this but how much I do know.

My ZTT looked a little low and it was a broken spring. Remove the wheel and inspect the bottom of the spring with a powerful torch.

Thanks for all the tips, I'll check the heights and look at it on level ground, as well as checking the springs. Initially I had thought the springs were tired, and want it ship shape for towing hence my query.
Thanks again. |

I'll guess the bottom coils are snapped as in the picture, above. Both of mine were, and I had no idea until I serviced it ready for MOT. It looked OK and drove perfectly, even with four people in and loaded. The snapped springs had only been fitted 11000 miles (3 years) previously. |

SNAP. Mine looked low (and lower on one side than the other) due to a broken spring. |

Mine is similarly low at the rear - couldn't find a broken spring on either side, but there again, could I have missed it???
