Rattle solved - unexpected solution
I've had a minor but yes annoying suspension rattle and slight vibration for awhile but I couldn't find it. My village garage suggested a rear tyre was slightly bobbly on the inside. Fortunately I had a full size spare recently acquired - thank you Ian - so put that on - and to my great surprise it seems to have cured it. Even taking the tyre off and examining it looked OK to me, but there you go. Learn summat every day.
Hope this might help someone with similar baffling problem.

Perhaps the tyre was causing a slight wobble which then caused something else to vibrate?
