Front Caliper repair imminent

Received my Caliper repair kit from Big Red today. Well pleased on the delivery which was free and within 24 hours! Reason for fitting squeaking brakes at low speeds! car sounding like a banger!

Would be great if you let us know how you get on. Have fronts and rears that I'd like to refurb and replace existing ones with. Any advice or tips you can give will be appreciated.

I did the job on a previous car. Not bad really. A g clamp came in very handy

Good for you! I always wondered why folk keep fitting new ones when there's hardly anything to go wrong with them. Give it all a good clean and copper slip the metal to metal bits

I replaced pistons and seals on the front of the CDT recently. I did it with the calipers still attached to the flexi - just rested the caliper on an 8 inch cardboard box.


It's a straightforward job, just follow this video. His little pointers about refitting the outer seal are spot on.

I purchased these clamps to stop fluid leakage as it had been replaced last year.

The contact areas on our car's calipers are rubber to metal - so best to use the silicon grease that comes in the Biggred kits rather than copper grease.

Anyone able to clarify the kit needed for rears?

Through the Bigg Red website there is no full piston repair caliper set for rears ( front is BRKP134 ), however, through their Ebay shop the rear kit is listed as BRKP242 - Can anyone confirm this rear kit would be the one for a 52 plate cdti auto connie SE? Many thanks in advance....

Solid rear disc version (36mm pistons - take note in the description of the size, I didnt 18 months ago! )

repair kit - NO piston (again 36mm pistons - I found these felt a nicer quality than big red's seals, more pliable and thicker)

Vented rear discs (40mm pistons - MG ZT 190, not sure if same as earlier vented discs)

Andy Willi re-furbed an old pair using the parts. I then went along and exchanged these with the old one's. The repair was done very quickly and the squeaky brakes have gone! Andy coated the calipers in bronze paint so not only did they do the job they look good too!

Yes the bolt hangers are rubber bushed but I meant the pads contact points benefit from a bit of copper slip or similar.

I've just ordered a full car set off them.
I changed the pads about a month ago and it's just not felt right since being stood at the garage for a month.
