Default If you send with Hermes

They are cheap for a reason!

If you send something with them, you must over package whatever you send. They pretty much say this on their website.

I received a brand new Symphony head unit today, in its original box, sadly it has been crushed in transit and as the faceplate of the radio is the same size as the cardboard outer, it has smashed the front panel

This needless waste of good parts can be avoided by just packing things too much. If you think 'it'll do' it won't! Pack it more.

I also received an ipk this week that was under packaged, as a result it too was smashed.

100% agree with this.

I recently posted a K turbo head and built a wooden frame to protect it.
I expect that anything and everything I post, with any courier, to be handled badly.

I agree with Pistonbroke having seen firsthand how parcels are handled by several of the companies in their depots you must package for the worst. It never ceases to amaze me how some companies and individual ebay sellers post items out in just their retail packaging with a covering of black or grey shrink wrap then are surprised when you complain the items are broken !

My Mrs was a hermes courier for 2 years, and if you saw how people packed stuff you'd be amazed,

The packaging is there for a reason, pure and simply to protect whats inside....

People used to put CD's in black bin bags to got to Magpie...!!!! Not just 1 or 2 but literally hundreds

I'll never used them again. I sent some old radio equipment made of pressed steel- when it arrived it looked like it had been run over by a tank, despite wrapping it up in 3" polystyrene, bubble wrap and several layers of thick cardboard.

After a lifetime in logistics, latterly dealing with the courier despatches from a blue chip company, rather sage advice.

As a lot of members will know, I over-pack everything I send, sometimes even double-boxing items with an intermediate layer of soft packing material too.

Royal Mail seem a bit more 'delicate', but not by a massive margin. UPS tend to handle parcels very well, so we're using them quite a lot more these days.
