Any difference in steering racks?
Hi
I have a chance of a brand new rack for the zt but the guy selling it is saying it's for a late model only. I thought the racks were the same , can any one enlighten me. Stan

There are two versions according to this: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID002020
- but as to how they differ, I've no idea. I seem to remember the ZT uses a higher ratio than the 75. TC Last edited by T-Cut; 16th August 2018 at 08:30.. |

I seem to remember reading a post by one of the many oracles that the later rack had a tighter turning circle , but I can't find the post.
Would that make a difference in fitting?

I would expect the actual mounting/fitting would be the same since all the bodyshells are the same. But get confirmation before committing.
Can't think the turning circle would differ, I have the gear ratios in mind. TC |

The ZT had a different steering ratio to be more responsive. (ie. less steering wheel turns from lock to lock).
I am pretty certain that on the Mark 2 Rover 75s they standardised the rack across the range, so the later Rover 75s were fitted with the same rack as a ZT Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I changed my steering rack last winter. The 75 has a steering ratio of 3.7 (from memory....) which means 3.7 turns to the left or right. The ZT ones have a ratio of 3.2 I believe. It has been a while.
Both racks fit, and both would fit. But be a bit careful, I bought a brand new one, still in the packaging that came from France. It was supposed to be a real Rover one that simply hadn't sold yet (in the last 15 years orso...). In the end I had nothing but problems with it and a garage that reconditions these racks confirmed that it was actually a very poor reconditioned steerick rack. I paid twice the purchase price to get it properly reconditioned. I hope you have an honest seller, but I'd recommend to be very careful. Fitting is a bit of a pain in the rearside. Its not difficult, its just not easy to get in there.

I have found this old thread.
According to post number 3, lock to lock, it is 3.2 turns for the earlier Rover 75 and 2.95 for the MG ZT.
