Radio Removal?
I recently removed the Harmony radio on my 03 1.8T to fit the Hans digital temp gauge. This meant I had to disconnect the wiring plug so it had no power or connection of any kind.
I fully expected to have to enter the radio code before I could use it again, but to my surprise when it was reconnected and switched on it worked normally with all the presets. Is this normal? I suppose it must be as it happened but it confuses me. John Wright |

Hy old harmony unit did not have a code. None of the symphony units do but I believe most of the harmony's are meant to be coded.

My Harmony does have a code, I just didn't have to use it.

Is the Harmony radio the same as my CD-80 radio? My 2004 handbook makes no mention anywhere of the Harmony system. If it's not a Symphony, it's either a CR-80, CD-80 or M3-100. Did you easily find the I-bus cable behind the radio? I can't seem to locate one on the radio nor on the climate control box. Any advice is welcome. |

Hello TC,
The Harmony is a slightly earlier model with the tape deck and no CD slot. The large multi-wire plug on the back has all 3 wires needed for the digital gauge including the I-bus. My biggest problem was getting the plug off. It has a weird locking system that does too good a job. John Wright |

Do or did MG/Rover have a CD player set in the dash or are they all with a cassette? I'm talking about the ZT/75 cars.

My handbook (May 03) shows a CD32, Harmony, and Symphony, the last two with the cassette.

You can choose wether you want your Harmony coded or not. There is a how to in your radio manual.

Thanks Gert, now I'm no longer confused.
My driver's handbook has two complete pages on radio codes, but no mention of the option to code or not. It does say that my Harmony will have been coded at the factory. Maybe mine wasn't. John Last edited by jcwatrichmond; 26th April 2009 at 05:54.. |
