Default head lamp power wash

Hi

My father in law has a 2005 MG ZT-T and the head lamp power wash does not work. The book say's after every 5 windscreen washes, but this still not doing it.

Can any one help, or have any ideas??

Many thanks

The lights have to be on as well. (I know - stupid comment but might as well be sure of the simple possibilities before going further)

Do you hear the pump running? It's just inside the driver's side front wing is is pretty noisy

The pumps do fail sometimes. A multimeter would confirm current getting to the pump.

IF the pump has failed there are pattern parts on fleabay at a fraction of the cost of an OEM pump AND they seem very reliable.

Do you have plenty of water in bottle ?
The headlight wash stops working when it gets to low level but the windscreen wash still works. Although you should get a yellow warning and low wash level on the message centre when this happens.

Yes plenty of water! Is the pump the same as the windscreen?? Also is it on the same relay and fuse hook up???

Seperate pump for sure, pretty certain seperate fuse as well. Go for the pump first, they have been known to fail, if by chance you can hear it running the jets may be blocked.

I think its a different pump as it takes the from a different place on the bottle.
Do you get a puddle of water under the bumper when you try and use? Its not unknown for the pipes to come away from the feed.

The pump is easy enough to reach from behind the wing liner. It's the highest (and closest) of the two pumps and just unclips from the bottle but needs to be lifted then carefully to extract the part which goes inside the bottle.

If you are getting a water leak, it'll almost certainly be the "O" ring which seats the water pipe connector onto the pump spigot. Easily fixed and costs about 3p

That's the same one I used. The OEM one is silly money in comparison.

It's NOT genuine BMW though.
