Ships A Hoy!
I had a wonderful afternoon with SWMBO and the nipper today down at Southampton docks where no less than five Cruise Liners were berthed, all ready to set sail within the space of half and hour of each other.
These ships are huge super liners that tower above the buildings of the city when moored alongside them, and it was a treat to see five go out at the same time Three were stacked up in a line, while two more were berthed just across Southampton Water. The first to depart was The P&O ship Adonia, this 30,000 tonne vessel carries 826 passengers and is 592ft long. It has eight bars, four restaurants and two swimming pools. Next was the MSC Opera, This ship weighs 58,000 tonnes, carries 1,712 passengers and is 823ft long. It has eleven bars, four restaurants, two theatres, two pools and a casino. Then the Crown Princess set sail in the distance. This liner weighs 113,000 tonnes, carries 3,080 passengers and is 951ft long. It has five bars, five restaurants, cinema, theatre, four pools, casino and a wedding chapel! Then the majestic Queen Victoria departed from dock gate 4 the original berth of the Titanic. This ship weighs 90,000 tonnes, carries 2,014 passengers and is 964ft long. It has five bars, six restaurants, a casino, theatre and ballroom, and two swimming pools. Finally just 30 minutes after the first ship departed, it was time for Independence Of The Seas to set sail. This liner is truly massive in construction, it weighs 154,407 tonnes, carries 4,370 passengers and is 1,112ft long. It has an ice rink, interactive water park, a rock climbing wall, theatre, cinema, cabaret lounge and mini golf course, as well as five restaurants, three pools, a wedding chapel, and an internal high street full of shops. ....one day if I win the lottery....... |

No idea But at least it meant all the spectators didn't have to wait around all day to see them leave
