Advice following crash with ZT...
Hi.
I've had the mis-fortune to have been rear-ended following a M1 smash (I left plenty of space, so no damage to front). Luckily, despite 7/8 cars being involved, no-one was badly hurt. Sadly, my MG ZT took a hit, so I'm after some advice from the experts and enthusiasts... Does anyone undertake or know of anyone that undertakes body repairs. The rear bumper has been smashed and is missing a segment, the rear drivers side light cluster smashed and the wing / metal that holds the light cluster and fuel refill cover bent and dented. I've taken a look under, and the impact bar looks slightly pushed out of place with the mounting bracket(?) pulled down - although the actual arm / tube looks intact without bend. It was suggested that part could be cut and welded from a 'donor car' - but that could be expensive. I really love the MG ZT (Diesel 54 plate) - and feel really down about it, especially since it wasn't my fault! If the opportunity to 'buy it back' from the insurance company comes up, should I, and do you know anyone that can bring it back to former glory (any £ estimates would be very helpful too). In anticipation, Paul (a slightly bruised ZT owner). Just wanted to add that it has the hi-line system and recently had a new injector, clutch, high pressure fuel pump, in-tank fuel pump, 4 new tyres, a starter motor and battery - hence my reluctance to let it go.. Any ideas greatly appreciated! Last edited by Dragrad; 19th August 2013 at 23:25.. Reason: consecutive posts |

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, Paul.
I'm sure something can be done to bring you car back to it's best. In the mean time, make sure to look after yourself - most parts on you can't be replaced!!

Pass, I received market value for my car after it was written off (Cat C), they gave me the money - £225 but I kept the car so I suppose they were laying claim to it.

Pictures..
Show me pictures and I'll advise, I'm certain it can be repaired and, if need be I can travel to help. Cars are just jigsaw puzzles, these are no different.

I've got to wait while their engineer values it. I've got some photos, so I'll upload them.
Thanks for the help! |

It might be worth mentioning the how much you've recently spent, give it a clean too.
I did with mine and was out when the assessor visited so he couldn't check the mileage, they never asked either. I received money for an 80k miles car but it had 200k on the clock. |
