Whatever you do MAKE A STRONG PASSWORD
eg. B0SToN%2O14+JeZuZ (note the use of zero in place of "O", CAPS and odd characters - but still possible to remember) In any online environment passwords are the most vulnerable.

also keep[ an eye out for those ebay/paypal "emails" that look like an official one, but are in fact "phishing" for your details, as ebay/paypal never ask for your passwords or credit card details that way.
They can be spotted easy enough, if you "hover" your mouse pointer over the hotlink in the email (the address they want you to click) it should show up at the bottom of your browser, read the link and if it is not the same or does not look like an official ebay/paypal address, then don't use it. simply forward it on to their fraud department. as for the fee's you can save a few pennies if you ask the buyer to send you a postal order or cheque, but a lot of them will not like doing that, and it does slow the transaction down, but not as much as that "eCheque Instant Purchase Payment " thing... that takes a full week to clear  and definitely most definitely get a proof of posting receipt for everything you send, if the value of the item is over £20 or so, send it insured (the recorded delivery method can insure up to.. erm.... well... at this point I was going to quote the royal mail website, but somebody has nicked it. go look yourself (although Murphy's law says it will be back on-line by the time you read this)

The biggest problem I have with Payplop is that it's owned by eBay........
Paypal is registered with the FSA as a Financial Services Organisation so in the event of serious problems you can go to them - I've heard that on occasions unwarranted chargebacks have been reversed just by threatening to report Paypal to the FSA..... |

I've yet to have a problem with PP, however as a seller I don't like taking it as by the time the thieving gits have their cut and the FVF, once that's taken out of the winning bid, quite often makes you wonder if it was worthwhile selling it in the first place!
As a buyer, can't fault it, as long as you're sensible then you shouldn't have any problems, and you also have a certain amount of security in that you can file a dispute if you don't receive goods that you paid for through PP and generally get your money back. As with the link and "phishing" emails just make sure that the address always starts https:// and never give your username and password to ANYONE who asks for it, especially not SWMBO |
