Default Look what I've inherited till I get another 75

Hi guys my dad has kindly given me use of his 75 untill I find a replacement. All the hard work has been done thanks to corin(messenger) and the parts he shipped. There are a few things which need doing to make it perfect but they are easy fixes. We get oil smells into the cabin when warm( this has been traced to the breather pipes on top of the engine. it also has squeekey brakes again my dad will sort that. The car since he's bought it has had a load of money chucked at it. It's had a new heater matrix(thanks corin). It's had the rear springs done at the last mot as they were fractured. It has had all the belts, waterpump, pullys tensioners etc, also the camshaft seal done. I thought it needed some oil the other day so topped up and then started smoking blue but found out I put to much in. My dad drained it and it's not smoked since (ooops). My dad was going to sell but after going in it again the other day rather than his work car he said we can't get rid of this! When I finally get my own 75/zt this one will be put in a garage to get the dented sills sorted and any other little niggles. I really love 75s and am thankful to everybody on this great forum. I will take some photos but your not going to be happy she is dirty at the moment but I can't be bothered to clean it as I'm really I'll(man flu). Thanks everybody Thomas

Putting too much oil in these is an easy mistake to make .
You have to DOUBLE dip the stick to get the true reading , the second dip is the TRUE reading.
BTW enjoy the car .

believe it or not it,s possible to get a totally dry stick on these yet the oil level is correct on the 2nd dip, when i went to look at my present 75 in the showroom they had put too much oil in , in fact they had put 2 litres too much in through ignorance of the dipping system ,

I have known this phenomenon for ages now .
It's possible to do a 'magic' trick by showing the dry stick then passing an empty oil can over the filler. .. and see ... the oil is now up to the top mark . Magic innit .

But has anyone seen the actual reason for this ? how is the dipstick tube constructed ? why does it not fill by itself when the engine has been run ?
It can't be the dipstick acting like a syringe plunger. I'm baffled.

Hi Thomas, Joanna drove our tourer for the first time since July. She hates it. Result ! Unfortunatley , she wants to drive it more often to *get used to it * ! . Every time she drives it, same problem, looks back, admires, and double checks its locked. At least you can discuss things with dad, as for me, i will try swap shifts to avoid her her drivin "apollo" as little as possible !
Regards Mark
