sitting on the fence, what are your thoughts on the defendants solicitor and the judge?

I don't know if there is but should perspective girlfriends be able to check the history of their boyfriends? ya ya know a can of worms but if you reply, just for now I want you to concentrate of keeping the girlfriend safe. Welcome to say no but you must put forward an idea to keep the girlfriend safe.

without knowing more, the decision by the court does seem bewildering.

A bit strong, placing your personal limitations on another members thread? Who made you sheriff?

The chap is a brute. Served 'his country'? Yes right, I wonder why he couldn't get a worthwhile job in civvy street. With his record, and the suggestions of rehabilitation are bunkum, he should have got 15 years hard, in a woman's prison. And the word is 'prospective'.

I was not putting limitations on the thread but to my question "should perspective girlfriends be able to check the history of their boyfriends".
Furthermore, the reason for putting the limitations was because I know the question was a can of worms and I wanted to stay focused.

I await your apology

This statement would have sounded much better if you had said 'Prospective partners should be able to check the history of each other'

Remember, its not just Men that abuse Women.

the facility EXISTS (maybe only in NI though ) but is only of benefit if the abused reports an issue.

They can - it's called Clare's Law.

Anyone can use it, regardless of gender. And you can also do it on behalf of a close friend or family member if you're concerned about them.

Yes very compelling, but why does this remind me of the stickers I saw on lampposts recently........

These stickers looked at first glance to be official police, however this was a superficial, instead they appeared to be a charter of instruction, catering to the benefit of criminals, not that the average criminal needs that type of thing.

Steve you have posted up links to youtube "justice" rants before, who could forget (most people probably) the diatribe of the bloke pestering the plods stopped at the side of the road for instance , and to be fair with your opening gambit about not having a TV licence, and the complaint about that being a criminal offence speaks volumes about how you view authority figures perhaps does it not?

I don't condone domestic violence in any capacity, however if people such as the man in the linked video feel so strongly about the things they post with such mock indignation, there are better ways of getting your point across than youtube.
