Suspension rattle
My car has a rattle from the front suspension that I am unable to find the cause of, it is a noise like a loose wheel or silencer banging on the body and only noticeable at low speeds and on rough roads. The car was recently MOTd and passed with no comments and when checking it over i could not find any appreciable play anywhere in the suspension.
I suspected the anti roll bar links may be worn but they seem ok as do the other bushes on the front suspension, could it be the top strut mounts? or maybe a noise from the rear suspension or exhaust travelling through the car and seeming to come from the front?. Paul |

I recently changed my lower engine mount. It "looked OK". But when I changed it with a new one, the difference was immediately apparent.Visual inspection may not necessarily source the problem
Just be aware of this ..............

It could be a mount as Dragrad said, it could be exhaust, I would get it diagnosed ASAP, and would not drive around in it in case it has developed a suspension fault that could be a potential danger, and end up being a costly 'could be'.

check the drop links, these are known to give the same noise when moving slowly over uneven ground, speed bumps etc.

Hi Paul,
Had a similar problem on my first 75 a while ago. Problem turned out to be a broken front spring. it had snapped very close to the bottom of the coil and was nigh on impossible to see from looking under the wheel arch. It hadn't even broken through the plastic coating on the spring which made it harder to spot. hope this helps. Regards, Mark |
