Question Central display disappeared

I have only had the car for two weeks and am getting on well with it. But after a couple of days the central display on the Alpine ICE stopped displaying. So I cannot tune the radio, although the sound system works and the computer operated by the LH stalk comes up on the dash.
I have heard that one needs to disconnect the battery for 30 mins or so to reboot all the systems. BUT I don't have the radio code and no on-line supplier seem able to oblige, given the serial number and the VIN. Someone suggested that the last 4 digits of the serial number is the code, but I daren't risk it. Any helppp would be much appreciated.

Hello Andrew and to the club.

Are you asking about the 4x3 LCD "hi-line" unit which also displays the satellite navigation maps? If so, it doesn't have a security code.

I'd suggest though that you first check your spare wheel well where the video module resides. It may have been water damaged.

Exclamation Caution

Andrew,

Before disconnecting the battery open the tailgate and wait for the red LED on the sat. nav. computer/disc drive to extinguish. If this is overlooked, this ECU won't shut down properly and it will become useless.

Thanks for the pictures Andrew. Unfortunately I cannot enlarge thumbnails but is that rust I see in the bottom of the spare wheel well (suggesting it has been wet before your ownership)?

When you unlock the car does the video module's cooling fan begin buzzing loudly?

I checked to ensure that the GPS LED had stopped blinking or had stopped shining. I disconnected the battery for 40 minutes.

When I re-connected everything seemed to work except the central display.

When I turned on the ignition there was a brief flash on the screen for a couple of milli-seonds but nothing else. Numbers 15, 16 and 29 fuses are fine.

When I first had the car the display showed the menu in tiny lettering about a quarter of an inch high. The Radio display was normal size.

I fitted a 'new' satnav and disc since that never worked.

So what next ? should I obtain a 'new' module and if so, is it the driver's side one or the passenger (LH)

Any help would be appreciated.

Ahh, you're saying that when you bought the car the sat. nav. disc drive/computer in the boot didn't work so you've fitted a second-hand replacement; have I got that right?

Thanks for confirming, that's normal.
