Why do you own a Diesel?
So as a carry on from yesterday's thread, why do you own a diesel?
If I am allowed an opinion this time, having owned a diesel auto, I see no great benefit over the petrol engines as the auto was shocking on fuel compared to the manual. Many other diesel auto owners confirm the same. I am now getting a similar fuel return from my petrol auto as I did the diesel auto, plus petrol is cheaper than diesel. Why do you own yours? |

Here we go again Rich I bought mine as there were only 2 options for me, 1.8 or diesel because of insurance costs. Didn't want the 1.8 as I didn't want to risk the head gasket as I use my car daily!
I don't like my diesel either, I like the car just not the diesel engine which is why I will be selling When my insurance is due for renewal. The 190 is still too expensive to insure so I won't be staying with the mark! Basically I wanted a zt and it was the only financially viable option for me |

For me it was the horror stories of the 1.8T and the belt replacement cost of the 2.5 that swayed me towards the diesel, but the final push was it being a BMW lump, plus I have the manual so economy is reasonable. Would of preferred a 260 but you know! Lee.

Diesel was cheaper back in early 2010 and I wanted to try a diesel out (having never owned one before).
I saw a one owner diesel contemporary with nearly all the kit and had the money at the time to buy it. The 1.8's and the V6's were far less money at the time. There are people who like different engines and that's all good too. Even now I have not regretted my choice and the 160 upgrade gave it the extra torque needed

I needed a test rig for ECU's, other than that I'd rather run an 1800 turbo.
Diesel smells horrible, and it doesn't evaporate like petrol Brian |

Simply because it was less than half the price of the equivalent Volvo at that time, knowing what I know now I think I'd still pick a diesel one over the rest, the main reason being they do 743.25 MPG and that's a TROO PHACT!

Because this car was available with the following:
Connie SE Spec (with extras like serpents and walnut wheel) Pre-Project Drive (even got the seatbelt bolt covers) Low mileage (57,000 - don't care what anyone says about old low mileage cars - I was going for as low as I could find) Full service history (not just stamps, but invoices) One previous owner Immaculate interior and VERY good paintwork in the correct colour / combination Auto Within 15 miles of where I live £995 after trade in The fact that the car is a diesel is neither here nor there. I'd have bought this particular example had it been an 1800 petrol or 2.5v6 - because the condition of the car for the price is fantastic and has the spec and colour I wanted. |

The only reason for me is that my commute is 75% motorway miles and I drive to london every month.
And it was in copperleaf and had only 55k on the clock. |

I bought my Tourer because I needed a tourer for Georgie, that was the main reason, never looked back since.
And it only had 43k on the clock(now 57k) Tax was cheaper being a manual, and I also needed a diesel to pull the caravan
