Default Rover 75 switch off while driving uphill

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I am from Austria and my english is maybe not the best but i hope you understand me

When I found this forum, I was very happy because in a german rover forum the user are inactiv.

Yesterday my dad bought a Rover 75 and we have a problem. When you drive the car uphill few kilometers, the car switch off and the warning flashes and the interior light goes on.

I hope you guys can help me out. When we bought the car we have many problems with the car-dealer becaus he reset the Kilometers and conceleaded the defects. The car-dealer leave and I cant contact him more.

I found the previous car-owner and he tell me about the car problems and the real kilometers. He told me about the switch off problem and now my dad and I dont now what to do.

I hope you can help me

I guess this is the diesel. I'm sure you'll get a lot of help here, there are plenty of diesel owners with lots of experience to diagnose your problems. Be ready to answer lots of questions about technical matters. The diesel engine is very robust, so I doubt there's anything seriously wrong. I'd suggest you start reading some of the threads covering the cooling (radiator/aircon) fan and the thermostat (use the search system). And welcome to the forum.

EDIT: Oh yes and the plenum!

Yes its the Diesel (2.0 CDT, 116 HP, 10/2001).

The previous owner said, when he drove uphill with 150km/h and he want to accelerate, the car switch off. That happened 5 times during 3 months.

EDIT: The car have a manual gearbox

Sounds like it could be injector leakback, so worth carrying out a leakback test.

This is a strange problem as you state that the interior light comes on when the malfunction happens, have you two keys? if you do try using the key that you know as not in use when the problem happened. The interior light usually comes on when the ignition key is switched off assuming the ignition switch is not playing up. Worth checking, it sounds strange, but start with the basics and move steadily on from there before jumping to too many conclusions.
Good diagnosis starts with good questions and answers.

I would agree with Micheal above, when my in tank pump went, the car stopped on a hill. There is a lot of information on the in tank pump, as a starter, turn the ignition key to position 2 and listen by the filler cap for a buzzing noise. This should last for 30 seconds. If there is no noise it is a fair bet the pump has gone. As a short term fix make sure you have more than a quarter of a tank of fuel.

Hope that helps.

Good Luck

John

Have the Rover 1 or 2 in tank pumps?

Yesterday I saw a sketch and there are 2 in tank pumps. Few minutes later I read in a Forum there are 1 in tank pump.

What is now correctly?

Is the in tank pump under the back bench?

Thx for all answers
