If we do decide to take a ride on the train, i don't think there will be any problem with getting tickets, If I may offer a suggestion, we drive out to either the pilot, or Britannia, then we can then drive up to the RHDR Station at Dungeness and then you can chose to either look at the sights there, or catch the train from there,
Sounds good I'm up for that. See you then

Hi Martin,

This is obviously an afternoon event, and Jan & I should now be able to get there.

What time are you meeting up, at the service station please; and which of the two pubs mentioned are you looking at, in case we need to catch up with you there?

If you are going to decide on the day, perhaps we can talk on our mobiles, en route.

Regards

Mike & jan

Meeting up at petrol station, 12.30 Pub, most likily the pilot but subject to change, if its packed, 1330 , For those who want to take a train ride, one leaves Dungeness at 2.45 and 3.30, there won't be enough time to do the full length of the line though, so only be able to go as far as new Romney, and returning trains are at 3.38 and 4.18

Thanks Martin, 12.30 is fine for us; I was concerned that you might have nominated 12.00, which would have been a bit tight.

I last had a journey on the RHDR about 10 years ago, although 20 odd years ago we used it a good few times.

For anyone interested in steam powered railways it's very enjoyable, although certain trains are (used to be) diesel hauled.

New Romney station has an interesting model railway layout / exhibition.

For further information, their website is rhdr.org.uk

Regards

Mike

Just to bump this back up, Next Saturday 28th May, Rover's day out
Meet up at Shell service station, on A259 at Brenzett , at 12.30 for a drive down to Dungeness to the Pilot where we can take a break, eat etc, then either take a trip on the RHDR to New Romney, leaving 2.45,or 3.30 , returning at 3.38 and 4.18 or have a look around Dungeness which in its self is interesting and has many eye catching oddities,

Thanks Martin for organising this.

The Pilot was a good choice, the Fish & Chips were certainly both tasty and plentiful. Very good, quick and friendly service as well.

Nice to meet Shadow.

Regards

Mike & Jan
