Hi Ian.
The mount from the petrol also fits into the cage /metal housing, that is not the problem, the problem is that the height of the rubber is 15mm more on the petrol or the ones that are being sold to fit the diesel.

That way we will not if what we get is correct or not

thank you

I can take the measurement tomorrow and post it up.

I can remember ages ago finding out that a FL mount fits but can not remember if the cage was removed i am in touch with the person whom had the mount of me and he is going to check tomorrow for me, i would think that on the diesel the housing needs to be in place otherwise it would not have been there, with Rover trying to save on money any way they could.

Hi Andy.
I fitted the one below to my tourer and the top alloy bracket would not line up properly at first then when i moved the engine a little it was still 15mm out, i have just purchased a FL1 mount which fits right all it needs is the top thread reducing by about 10mm

1

AS you can see the original one had failed, it also as the letter J stamped into the bottom.
2

Lucky i had an old one from someone else's car that i had fitted an original too.

So will be doing the 2.5 hour plus job again in near future.

The housing must be fitted also on the diesel.

Here are the measurements that Ian asked for regarding the top thread ? it's not the thread that's the problem though it's the rubber that is 10mm higher.

Original as a letter J.
1

The height of the thread of the top of the rubber is on the original 47mm
2

The newer petrol mount height is 53mm
3

In this photo you can gauge the difference more easy.
4

A Freelander 1 mount as now been sourced which as the same height of rubber but the top thread is longer and needs reducing by about 10mm once it arrives i will photo it against the original & the petrol one.

I will then at sometime start my own thread, in the mean time if i have time and the weather permits i will once again will fit or introduce the petrol mount to the diesel and once fitted will give it a run and see how it feels, but i prefer the height of the mount on my car to be the same as original that is why the petrol as not been fitted as of now.

And, if so, surely that is putting an unnatural load on the other engine and transmission mounts. Maybe not so critical, though, because it has been installed for two years.

Default FL1 Mount

The FL1 mount arrived this morning.
1

2

It will need a little modification (ie) 11mm taken off the top thread.
3

4

This is only needed so the special tool will fit correctly.
5

Note also that the top area surface is wider on the FL1 mount as opposed to the original, in my opinion helps spread the load better for the engine bracket to sit on
6

The top rubber also as more of a chamfer again helping spread the load.

FL1 Left.
Petrol Centre.
Diesel Original Right.

7

Will get this fitted asap
