Simon, what do you mean by "all good"? Did you test for continuity using a resistance range on your meter?

Is your spare switch mounted correctly on the pedal mechanism at the moment?

Simon

I now am in exactly the same situation as you. Fitted a brand new switch Friday, working Friday night, working Saturday. Saturday night stuck on again!!!

The pedal is touching the switch, checked fuses, now I'm just peed off.

I had a brake light problem as above, even with a new switch, I couldn't get the lights off... tried everything recommended above. In the end, with perseverance and a lot of fiddling, it turned out that the switch was not sitting correctly in the holder. It took me 2 weekends of turning the air blue to sort, but so simple in the end. I would suggest you play with the switch, move it around a bit, take the cover off the high level brake light so you can see if the light goes off whilst having a wiggle! My issues were compounded because I also had a faulty LED ring on one
tail lights causing a short....

I've fixed the problem..... It was an in compatible switch, but you wouldn't know to look at it, i originally ordered a xkb000022 which is for a Landrover where as the xkb000022a is for MGR , I ordered a new part from Rimmer Bros and everything works ☺

Hi folks,

I have this same problem, I'm lost as to what to do now.

Originally, I could cure the problem with the brake lights staying on by pushing the switch back into the housing a click or two. However, this fix wouldn't last long, so today I bought a new switch from Eurocarparts.

I fitted the switch and have found that now the brake lights stay on permanently with the ignition in position 2. If I put the ignition to position 1, the switch works fine, so I assume the switch is OK.

I've refitted the old switch, but the problem is the same. Brake lights work fine in ignition position 1, but stay on permanently in pos 2.

I've checked fuse 7 and 13 and they are OK.

I'm not sure what to do next. Can anyone help!

Al

Had the same problem as yourself, even down to ignition positions working / not working.... As far as I know - the only switch that works as it should is sold by Rimmer Bros as mentioned in the above post.

Hope that helps.

Yes it's cheap, and it's nasty, but I hit my pedal switch with WD from a straw and it's been fine for 18mths so far. Just lucky I guess.

I've ordered a genuine MGR one from eBay (from ex Rover dealer).

Hopefully that will sort it, but I have a feeling that it's not the switch that's the problem now.

Default Hope you have found an alternative source for the switch

Let us know if it works as it should when you fit it, will be very surprised if it isn't the switch as what you have said is exactly how mine was before replacing with the one from Rimmer Bros.

Amazing how such a simple fault can cause so much aggravation.

Well I have an update...

I followed bigblue75's advice and bought a genuine MG Rover part (XKB000022A). I've fitted it and the brake lights now work as they should. Sir, I am in your debt!

The first switch I bought was from Eurocarparts. I will be getting in touch with them to tell them the part doesn't work with our cars.

Thanks again everyone - I'm not sure what I would have done without the help of this forum. I'm now going to have a celebratory beer!
