PD engines in those Skodas are very good, despite the age and basic technology they'll just keep on going and if desired can be tuned to some serious power (helped tune plently of ~250hp monsters still on stock internals)

The VNT turbo is probably the most unreliable part of them especially with poor quality remaps that either melt the turbo, clog up the internals or just demand too much boost.
