Tourer Tow Bar
I am shortly going to have a tow bar fitted to my 2001 tourer. Does anybody know if a fixed tow bar will interfere with the reversing sensors when I am not towing. If so I will need a removable tow bar , but these seem quite expensive!
Thanks Barry. Last edited by Bazman; 13th February 2008 at 18:34.. |

It's not the tow bar, it's the wiring that's inportant. MGR do a plug and play kit that takes the sensors into account.

ISTR, that when you plug the tail board in it disables the sensors.....I'm sure someone with one will confirm this for you...

Barry, I installed a detachable with the Rover electrics kit - perhaps a little expensive for the kit but far the best option.
Have tried it with the ball in situ and it does not seem to trigger the sensors. Allegedly, the towing electrics adjust the sensing circuit to trigger their reaction by allowing an additional 4 inches behind to allow for the ball. Sensors work until you plug in the trailer which stops the sensors. Paul |

Fitted a tow bar to mine, no problems. No trouble with sensors, then again have not tried to reverse with a trailer. The indicator alarm is activated when the trailer was plugged in (that surprised me).
In general there should not be a problem if the wiring is done right
