Morning, strange day . . . . its not raining! Everything is swimming wet after the last few days though, places in Aberdeenshire had a month's worth of rain in three days. Not as bad as that here but still enough rain for severe local flooding particularly the west side of Edinburgh.

The persistent rain has ceased here for showers barreling through. Missus wants me to put a curtain rail up but that's not happening today because that walk to the furthest part of the hospital to the bloods from the car park has killed me.
Morning Ian, if you go into complete retention you should go to the hospital and get yourself catheterised, then relief. The sooner you have the cystoscopy the better, then you and your surgeon will know what you’re dealing with. I had to wear a leg bag attached to a catheter before I had the cystoscopy, it wasn’t so bad and no incontinence.

Morning Steve,

A dramatic photograph, thank you.

Edinburgh is a lovely city in terms of what’s going on, accessibility, history and architecture. As you know Jessica went to Edinburgh University and she was very happy there. A shame about the weather.

I hope you are looking after yourself, keeping dry and warm, looking after Ging and the girls. Take care.

Morning all, a frosty start to the day here, at least the sun is shining.

I very nearly got dressed & went off to the A+E at Bolton but the thought of waiting hours in there put me off so I thought I'd tough it out.
I did manage to get some relief with the 8 or so visits to the bathroom overnight though.
I'm just waiting for the appointment to arrive for the cystoscopy which she said would be done in the urology dept.

Ian, if I may suggest, pack a small bag and get yourself into A&E. Explain you have gone into retention, your pain is unbearable and you cannot pee. I would not be at all surprised if they catheterise you and offer a fast track for an urgent cystoscopy. (Do ask for it)….. You should not have to suffer like that.

Thank you Phil it's getting to that stage now, I'm going to leave it until Monday to hear from the urology team. I asked her about the length of time it's taking to get treatment on the prostate, she said I need to be on that hormone treatment for at least 3 months before the radio treatment as it will start to shrink the prostate, I'm due for my next three month injection on the 1st December. I know one of the machines at Christies Salford is broken & will take 4-6 weeks to repair so nowt can be done about that really. My appointment to start that treatment on the 2nd November at Christies Oldham was given to the Salford patients who are mid treatment.

She said I wont be able to have the external beam radio treatment if I cant empty my bladder so I'm waiting on the results of the catheter/camera appointment & the blood tests I did the other day. It's not too bad today at least I'm peeing more than the other night.

Ging is fine, girls pampered as usual. Ging is nightshift and Suzy has perfected slipping through the door with you even if you try to stop her, as a result she's in bed with Ging, sleeps all day with her then all night with me

I've started the hormone treatment Bit of a farce, phoned the GP the other day to tell them I still hadn't started it, they said to check with the pharmacy, nope, still not in. Phoned the endocrine mob at the hospital to tell them the prescribed treatment still hadn't arrived at the pharmacy, the secretary was going to advise the specialist who had an alternative as a back up. I went to the pharmacy a couple of days later to pick up my usual repeat and was handed the hormone gel as well It had come in later in the day I'd phoned, considering how long I'd been waiting would have been nice if they'd delivered it or at least let me know it had appeared.

Dodgy stuff this, warning on it that its highly flammable, keep away from naked flames until the stuff had dried into the skin

The other thought I had, I remember when I went into retention and had to wait 6 months for a cystoscopy, I was taught to self-catheterise and to this day, I still keep a catheterisation kit in case of emergency and I am out in the bush hundreds of miles away from a hospital and go into retention. The local is Lignocaine gel.

The downside of catheterisation is there is a risk of infection and you do have to know what you are doing so it’s best left to the professionals to do it or teach you how to self catheterise.

As you know Ian, last weekend 111 called an ambulance to me at 10:30pm. The ambulance arrived at 00:40 and it had to come from South Wales over the bridge to Bristol. A sign of the times…..

The ambulance took me into A&E to the part where the drunks and druggies can’t get access. The crew booked me in quickly and I was seen within 10 minutes of arriving in A&E. It was my first time there, I was impressed….

Another option for you to consider.
