Smile Oil change cdti

Dear Members

I intend doing an oil change on my Rover 75 connoisseur cdti 2 litre

diesel but i am not sure if you have to renew all three oil seals on the filter or just the big one secondly is it necessary to reset service indicator on the dash its still got 900 mls to go but the oil as been in for over 12 month

The filters normally come with at least one (the big one) so as long as that is ok you will be fine. Be sure to bung a load of rags to protect the alternator from spillage.

Reset - go for it. There are tools on eBay for about 5 pounds same tool as for an early new mini. testbook will do it, the software which must not be named will (afaik) or there is the paperclip method.

Other than the big socket for the housing nothing too difficult.

If the 2 seals on the stem are green in colour, leave well alone they will last the life of the engine.


Many garages think they are being clever by replacing them from those universal kits. They become brittle and fall off after less than a year as they are NOT oil proof !!! Also they are usually too thin .
We have the proper BMW seals if you need but you can get them from any BM dealer if someone has fitted inferior seals.

I'm not 100% on those. Personally like the sump undone si any swarf, gunk is washed away.

On the other hand modern engines, oils and filters should take care huuum undecided.

Also check the radiator fan works on all speeds.
Bet it doesn't
