Default TV repairs

Can anyone recommend a good TV repair guy or gal for that matter in the Walsall, Sutton Coldfield or North Birmingham areas.
Our Samsung LED TV died yesterday and I guess from the symptoms its a faulty power supply unit.
I did some research on the net and apparently it's a very common problem with modern Samsung tellies. But a repair has got to be better than shelling out 600 notes for a replacement. That's money better spent contributing to the cost of an MGF for swmbo.
Thanks for any suggestions.

how good are your diy skills? all you'd need is a screw driver to take the back off, couple connectors, couple of screws holding the circuit board to the tv itself then you can replace it with a working power unit

Will probably do that eventually, going to give Samsung customer services a try first as there has allegedly been such a world wide furore over this fault they have been known to carry out repairs as a good will gesture to improve their PR.

I'm at work at the moment and don't have the model number with me but it's only two and a half years old.

yeah I got a old 40" samsung from work as it was no longer working, turned out to be suffering a bad power supply unit as well as the dreaded blown capacitors, easy enough to replace both boardsand was working well after that

Phone Samsung and have a good old moan, tell them you expected it to last longer than 30 months when you bought it and how disappointed you are.

As has been said, they'll probably offer to help in some way as it's a very common fault.

If you decide to DIY, then it's probably the large electrolytic capacitors on the PSU, replace them with ones of a higher working voltage (if you can get them to fit), obviously use the same farad rating.

Adding to this, make sure they are 105c and not 85c caps as well and remember they are polarised, so put them round the right way

If its def the PSU then its probably ( but not always) the Capacitors have packed up .. and a cheap repair, ( worth a visit to the "BAD CAPS" Forum for some advice..

I've done a few with just caps( a couple of pounds) and my last one a 42 inch Panasonic I bought a whole PSU board off Flea bay and popped it in .. under £50 ..

Default old thread revival

My samsung 40" tv takes ages to wake up. Had a moan to Samsung, who are sending an engineer on wednesday. If it is the capacitors, the repair will be free...

...lets hope so..
