Question Leaky aircon or leaky master cylinder or what is this?...

Whenever I post to the tech forum I'm like... damn it, something bad happened again...

Had a wonderful day trying to convince the airport check-in lady that my plane ticket does exist after my phone SIM card errored out and would not connect to the ****** internet to show her my ticket... Well, one free hotspot and 20 mins later and I was all checked in and apologized to cause their system was literally missing my ticket...

Then missed my shuttle to the parking lot where I'd left my blue 75...

And then on the way I felt something greasy on the clutch pedal - I felt it after I'd set my foot down on the spot made for your left foot in the 75 and put it back up, so I figured it was something in the car... When I got home I looked at it and what I found can be seen in the pics... It looks like something coming out of the AC... But that part from the AC is really solid melted or something... the substance on the foot rest was quite greasy in itself... I've felt around the master cylinder and that seems to be fine. The clutch was working perfectly... Anyone have any clue as to what may have happened?...

The only thing I can think of is that the day prior to leaving I set the blower to hot and I left it at 4 or 5 bars on ECON for like 2 hours or so, and this time I set it to blow the heat at my feet, not feet and front-screen like I usually do...

But what the hell could that be?... Quite baffled. And hoping it won't be too bad or cost me an arm and a leg...

PS: It doesn't seem to taste like clutch fluid... and it's very oily and thick...

You can see the Master is leaking from the stains on the foam (unless you've refilled and spilt it there).
You can now fit a metal Master cylinder to do away with the problematic plastic items - and they're a snip at £69.99:

The original items do tend to be rather unreliable.
As for the other substance you've found, I found similar on a ZT I've just changed a Master cylinder on. I'm wondering if it's something that's reacted with the brake fluid, perhaps some insulating foam from the AC pipework.

I actually think that might be from a previous owner cause the foam is dry as a bone - it has the stains on it but they seem to be very very old.

I'd be happy if it were the master cylinder cause I have a brand new 1500 mile clutch in my dead 75, so I'd put that in.

Shouldn't I be getting some clutch problems if the master is leaking?...

Thanks for your time, dude.

No worries, glad to help. Happy days if it's nice and dry - it could have been a previous failure then.
Brake fluid does eat away at certain types of plastic and rubber, so we think that's what caused the mess in the same area on my friend's ZT.

I wouldn't worry too much.
