Dragrad

Have a read of this.

One of the most informative bits of info I have seen on the 'net.

Sorry to hear of your new problems Andrew.

Would not assume that your problem is this but, prior to the 75 I had a Disco. Travelling up the A12 there was suddenly an awful tapping noise. Pulled in to a layby and called the RAC (did not have any tools with me). All they did was send a recovery vehicle which took me home.

Expecting something major I started to find the problem. Off with the rocker cover and there was a broken tappet adjusting screw causing the pushrod to have an excess clearance and to hit on the bottom of the rocker - easy and cheap repair by replacing the adjusting screw.

Therefore, what might seem expensive might not be and I sincerely hope that yours is not.

As stated by many others Andrew,
sorry to see and hear you are with a similar (but different) I hope problem.

Have you had it on T4 yet to see any codes recorded?
Normal Code readers won't show a lot of these fault codes.
Get the Injectors checked for leak-back etc and possible fuel Pressure faults..............

Will be replying to your PM (and the other 150 odd) as soon as possible.

Would it be "cheaper" for me to cover your travelling costs to sunny West Wales with an overnighter?

Good heavens they are relatively local to me.
I have been there several times but to a different unit! next time I pass by I will pop in and check as that industrial estate does have a high turn over of occupants.

It's with the garage, they're having a look at it on Monday. I have collated and printed all your suggestions and that nice link above and will present that to the garage as well.

Fingers crossed

When it stopped, what did it do exactly? Did it just suddenly loose power or did it stutter and stop? Any nasty clanking sounds?

Basically as already stated... Noticed a drop in power as I was accelerating, Noticed a cloud of black smoke behind me. Engine died and I coasted into a convenient layby.

Turned the key and a dry clanking noise was all I got. Engine seemed to be turning alright, if not a little fast.

Any ideas on prices of second hand engines? Know of any gathering dust somewhere?

Makes you wonder if you have been running on one pump for a while and it died

See what Monday brings Andrew

Would it go as catastrophically as described? Would there not have been some sort of warning?
