inline stat questions, after fitting....
hi chaps , i have just fitted a inline stat at the wkd.
Engine temp was running at 81c. So fitted stat , and done obc , its now running at around 87c and cycles down to 83c and back up to 87 ,88 in normal driving condtions , idle is around 91. The only thing iam not to happy with is the top hose now feels alittle hard , when running and up to temp. also it seems to have alot more air in the system when you take the cap off, than it did before fitting the stat. i have re bleed the system twice , but still is the same. is the top hose having a more solid feel to it,something that other people have noticed after doing the inline mod. |

It will feel hard. It's the vapour pressure of the hot water in the coolant creating pressure in the whole system. It's absolutely nothing to worry about if your hoses are in good nick. The maximum pressure the system can possibly reach when a standard 140 rated pressure cap is used, is 22psi. You can't compress a hose anywhere near that pressure by hand. You shouldn't take the cap off when the system is hot. It's water vapour that comes out, not air. This assumes there's no air bubbles in the system to start with.
