Power up
Thanks JDC
I'm buying one of the "lost" Bermuda 75 Tourers tomorrow which is a 116, hence the question. I would like to do all the performance improvement mods ASAP, given that the engine has done less than 10 miles and should be in ideal condition to tweak. Are there any things to be aware of, apart from the insurance issue? Thanks for your input. Andy

Being new, the EGR By-Pass and Air Filter can wait,
the MAF should hopefully be OK or checked after standing for some time. When/If you purchase a Synergy from Rover Ron ask him if he still can do the Turbo spring (often Free). The XPart Re-Map to 130BHP is a Good start to have as the car is very underpowered in its lower form IMHO, if you wish to go the "official" way first. (Raistlin and others had this done then the Rover Ron Box). Nothing that stands out to me to be aware of before you start, other than all the normal things previously mentioned or posted. If it is coming with a Warranty from SMC I wouldn't at this stage go ahead with the MK2 Air Intake Mod without checking wording of Warranty re modifications done. If I can be of any assistance or advice on the Modifications front you can always PM me and if I am at Birmingham Airport for work could always fit in a mini meet as required. |

Hi Andrew,
As you know, I got one of the bermuda triangle tourers from SMC. I would advise you to make Halfrauds your first port of call ( just up the road from SMC ) and purchase a bottle of ZX1 to put in your new engine, this is also recomended by Roverron and having used it myself for years in different cars I can safely say it works, but thats another story. I have done all the above mods except the X-power mod due to time constraints before leaving for Austria, I did'nt have time to carry out the mods prior to making my trip and what a mistake that was. The difference is outstanding now that I have carried them out here, you won't be disapointed I assure you. I can't wait till I get the car home to get the X-power mod done. Glad you decided to go for the car and hope you get as much joy as I have from the little time I've owned it. Regards, John. |

No doubt the engine will handle that amount of power, John. But I'm a bit concerned about the gear box. Do you know about the specifications of the Jatco transmission? I prefer to be on the safe side ...

Bermuda Triangle 75 Tourer
Hi Rob/Jurgen
I would dearly love to keep all 3 cars, but Mrs Yellow Peril has spoken, so it's my Ski Blue 05 2.0l cdti saloon that going. This is my everyday car and as this is a 131, it was the because the "new" car is a 116 that prompted me to ask about uprating engine performance as I like the oomph from the 131. A V8 is (currently) out of the question................. Don't worry Rob, I'll be there on Sunday. Hey Jurgen, PM on it's way to you Andrew

and as excellent as it is, I am not pushing the Power Boundaries any further personally. Checking with other engines and their Torque/Power I have decided any further increases in power would require alterations to gearbox, for me to be happy, around 175BHP is maximum I woulsd feel happy with. The Traction Control helps but you can really feel it come in at times if not turned off, and I have often wondered if that effects life of the gearbox. I wouldn't want to have any extra power as stated with the box as is, that is of course just a personal opinion and I have been told it could go to 185BHP and still handle everything fine. But as I have all I need why go further? The gearbox has now done over 110,000 miles 80,000 of them with the 170BHP. She still runs as sweet as a bird with no problems and only have had and not cleared one minor niggle posted elsewhere sometime ago. The fluid changes are carried out regular with correct fluid at correct temperature with the assistance of a T4. |

I agree, proper maintenance is quite an important part for a long life of the gearbox.
