Thanks Kandyman but I'm looking for painted covers not the chrome ones. Both of your links are for chrome versions.

(NB. Both links seem to go to the same place - XPart).

SMC's covers are pre-painted and they have the right colour for my car - i.e. Zircon Silver - but they only have the non-bullet type.

Btw, there's a huge price difference between SMC and XPart.

SMC = 2 x £4.99 for painted non-bullets, XPart = £69.95 for 2 chrome bullets. Weird.

I changed the covers on my old V reg copperleaf red 75 for chrome ones (bullet shape). The trick is to warm up the mirror glasses before removal by switching the HRW on, this minimizes the risk of cracking the glass. Remove the mirror glass by tilting the mirror downwards as far as it will go to gain access to the retaining clips. Then use a pair of long nose pliers to gently squeeze the retaining lugs on the mirror cover togther while easing the cover off. As they say in all good workshop manuals, replacement is the reverse of removal.

Warming up the new covers before fitting makes life easier, especially in cold weather when the plastic gets brittle.

If you have a copy of the Rover service manuals on CD. the accessory instruction sheet is on it.

Hope this helps.

Tim

From my memory of the .org forum, it's not a case of price difference between SMC and X-Part, I believe it's more a difference in the prices of the two types of mirror covers, old and newer style.

Tim - I have to buy the new covers first, then I'll have a go at the pesky clips. I do have the cd you mentioned.

Baxlin - I'll give XPart a ring and see what they want for a bullet cover. Trouble is they probably won't be painted even if they stock them
