Default Repairing FBH water pump

When it comes to stripping down an FBH water pump, how far can you go?
I have the impellor off, big deal!

Is it possible to get the plastic cap off on the top of the pump where the wires go? If it is, how?

The pump is not spinning when 12v applied at the plug and so I'm guessing the problem is either under that plastic cap or a broken wire between the body of the pump and the plug that fits into the pcb.

Seems a shame to throw the pump without having tried to fix it
