is reversing a short trailer harder the a long trailer as the wheels of the trailer are closer to the "tractor unit"?
It is seriously impressive reversing and must have taken an awful lot of practice. it was not just accurate but very fast macafee2 |

That’s impressive
I was an HGV mechanic back in my youth and we used to reverse artics complete with trailer at speed right round the yard “for practice” We even deliberately jack knifed them then pulled the trailer brake on to straighten them up. If only the boss knew I did get into trouble once when reversing a trailer into the workshop for one of the younger guys. I was on my blindside (no fancy mirrors showing your wheel position) and I caught a piece of scrap metal with the wheel nuts. It pulled the scrap down between the brand new tyre and the kerb and ripped it open. I got a right earful from the boss but when he looked to see where it happened he ordered the scrap to be removed that same day. Oh ! And yes it’s much easier to manoeuvre a long trailer than a short trailer. The short ones turn in quicker. Last edited by Jim Jamieson; 10th March 2019 at 23:19.. Reason: Add text |
