Question Gurgling Fuel ZT CDTI

Went to start the ZT CDTI & not firing (just onto the fuel light). Gurgling fuel sounds from key position 2 when the fuel pumps kick in to prime (not a steady hum, -a gurgle). Removed the fuel line from the under bonnet fuel pump into the fuel filter & it was just blowing mostly air, with a few spits of diesel coming out (after 2 mins of UBP pump turning, 100mls of diesel was the result).

Now, i've changed the under bonnet AND in tank fuel pumps twice before in 2010 & 2012, since 2012 its done about 30,000 miles problem free upto now, (although there always was some degree of gurgling on start up, even during when the tank was nearly full).

Surely, the pumps don't wear out after just 2 years use? or is it something else possibly..? (like air getting into the system)
