I read on one of the Beemer forums that no BMW-trained mechanic would even consider sticking bare wires into the OBD socket to reset a service light. Maybe it's OK for MGRs but not for BMWs?

Thank for all your replies. Now please bare with me on this having just been converted from petrol engine. If I do my own servicing with fluids, filters and this psv thing and do the checks suggested on the service sheet thats on here. What about the likes of valve clearence ignition timing and suchlike? Is it the case that once the timing is set by the factory then that's it?

The valve clearance is controlled automatically by the hydraulic tappets. The ignition timing is controlled electronically via various positional and speed sensors and throttle system. Easy eh!

Sounds like a piece of ----- . With the ekkyspurts on here and the pic's been posted I can't see where I can go wrong. With genuine replacement parts and good oil the car will drive for years to come. to all who helped.
