Default Rover 75 number 4

Here we go again! After retiring the tourer (which I'm still a little disappointed at) I began my search of a replacement car.
For the last month or two I've been totally undecided. I wanted another estate or 4x4 to replace the tourer but with job uncertainties and lack of money due to another recent car purchase I couldn't get what I wanted.

Then this one came up.

53 plate Connie se auto with gear change issues. At a very reasonable price too (was advertised on here actually) so I went to view and ended up leaving a deposit!

So over the last week I've fitted a replacement gearbox solenoid, drivers door lock and put it in for its mot. Passed without a single advisory. Well chuffed.

The car is a credit to its previous owners. I don't think I've seen as much service history before on any car I've looked at. It seems to have been well looked after.

So future plans are to fit towbar, fit some serpents, find the boot leaks and give the body a tidy up. Hopefully it shouldn't need too much over the next year or two

Don't start spreading that rumour about, I'm not set up yet...

Pretty easy, just awkward more than anything. Ideally you need to be built like a pencil to get in. It's a little tight in places but you can get away with jacking up the near side. Would be much easier to take the bumper off and move the rad out the way but means a bit of unnecessary work.

If you've got the solenoid to hand it's doable in an hour.

Well done, a lovely looking car.

I purchased a T reg Arran White 2.5 Conn SE with a faulty autobox from a trader a few years ago.

Took my scanner up, scanned the box & found the usual culprit (2/4 Brake Duty Solenoid)

Done the deal (very little money changed hands) & the following week, I purchased another 75 Conn SE with Aubergine Personal Line. This one had a blown engine (again, very little money)

I took the solenoid from the one with the blown engine to repair the fault in the autobox (as already said, an hours work) I had a silky smooth gearbox.

The Aubergine Personal Line interior is almost in (I know, it's taken a while) but it'll be worth it in the end I think.

Not sure if there's a how to, but the job is simple. If you've got a spare box out if a car then it's just a repeat but with the box in place. However, a quick guide would be

All sizes below denote the size of the socket / spanner for the bolt.

-Jack near side up and adequately support
-drain fluid from the lowest 24mm nut, don't touch anything on the back of the box
-remove all the 10mm nuts from the black cover but have a suitably large clean container below as there will be some oil come out if here
-remove 2/4 duty solenoid which is the second up on the near side of the box. Held by two long 10mm bolts
-put new solenoid in, cover back on, and fill with fluid.
