"Charge Fault" displayed intermittently
After getting my injectors sorted a few days ago, I was told by the garage that there was a slight knocking sound from the engine which they thought could be the crankshaft pulley.
Ok I thought, I will waiting a little bit to get funds sorted before i have to spend again to get it sorted. But today I have been getting a red display on the instrument pack saying Charge Fault. It only appears when I am manouvering the car for parking and then only briefly. Whe the wife took the cr out this evening, she said that the power steering seemed to go too while she was parking. Could this be the related to he crankshaft pulley problem with the belts not turning as they should to charge the battery and the powered steering??? Plisken |

From your description it could well be that one of the belts isn't turning the alternator properly along with the ancillary belts for the power steering pump etc. I would personally get this sorted sooner rather than later as you could lose power steering altogether. Plus, a new battery may be required if it is left to drain too low. |

check the condition of your belts first, could be worn. i had a charge light come on occasionally , in the early morning or when accelerating above 3000 rpm for a second or two it was the alternater and it lasted about two months before it failed , so more likely to be your belts hopefuly . dan

The crankshaft pulley is a damped design, which involves a circular sandwhich of metal and rubber. Sometimes the rubber comes away from the metal, leading to a collapsed pulley. This is what caused the knocking. It sounds like the pulley has given up the ghost.
